歌手:SHOLA AMA(修拉・阿玛) have a track with Perempay N Dee called DJ Play, which is the follow up to Something in the Air; that should be out at the end of April. I'm also in the process of recording my fourth album. Over the next few weeks I'll be traveling to Japan, France, Tunisia and Dubai – so I'm just getting on with it really. Cut Above the Rest, your track with Giggs, is very popular – how did that come about? It's really weird. My son Mykai is five years old and he's a really big Giggs fan. He loves him because his dad is into Giggs and they drive around in the car listening to him. I heard his stuff and was into it so I sent him a message on Facebook. He contacted me, we went to the studio, and the track was born within a few minutes. We just had that vibe together. I really respect him. He's very talented and good at what he does. How do you feel about the UK music scene at the moment? A lot of the grime and underground artists that were coming through when I was recording four or five years ago are doing really well now. So there are a lot of good things happening, but the whole industry has changed so much. I'm not even worrying about that. I just love making music, it's what I do. I'm blessed to still be able to do it, so I'm just going to keep doing it. I don't want to get too caught up with what's going on with the industry side of things because it’s ever changing, so I just keep doing my thing. What’s been the highlight of your career so far? Singing at the Vatican is an obvious one, but there have been so many. I'm just grateful that even now at this stage; I still have a career in music. Everything is a blessing. There’s been many a one-hit-wonder where someone releases one of the biggest singles of the year or the decade and then they never see that success again. English soul singer Shola Ama signed a record deal when she was just 16 and her second single became her biggest selling hit and one of the biggest singles of 1997. Joan Bell from Wicklow has recommended this Shola Ama hit. Joan says, “I know this will be a blast from the past but one of my fave songs from the ‘90s is Shola Ama’s You Might Need Somebody. It was one of those songs that we’d have on cassette singing on front of the mirror with the hairbrush!” You Might Need Somebody was a Turley Richards cover and the video for the song, if you remember, was like an advertisement for a chic penthouse apartment!
